Born in 1975, Lauryn Hill is a house hold name known as a rapper, songwriter, record producer and an actress. She began her career as an actor in 1991 appearing with club XII, later she appeared on soap opera "As the world turns". In 1993 she co starred in the ’Sister act 2: back in the habit’ with Whoopi Goldberg. Hill Began her music career in 1994 when she joined “The Fugees” together with Pras and Jean. The Fugees is a short form of refugees a disparaging term for Haitian American. Hill rose as a lone female member of “The Fugees” that became the best and biggest selling R&B act around the world. The Fugees signed a contract with Columbia / Ruffhouse records in 1993. They released their debut album “Blunted on Reality” in 1994 where it reached number 62 on the bill boards top R&B charts. The second album ’The Score’ was released in 1996 and reached number one in the US bill boards and later stayed in top ten for more than 6 months. Particular singles “Ready or not”, “No woman no cry” and “Fu-gee-la” underlined Hills rapping and singing talents. Her version of “killing me softly” became her most successful and a breakout hit. Hill’s reminiscent vocal line and astonishing pipes bolstered her support. She went further to record a solo record “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” 1997-1998 inspired by The Miseducation of the Negro. The album saw contribution from John legend, Carlos Santana, Mary J. Blige and D Angelo. Hill soon dropped out from public lime light and was reportedly dissatisfied with the music industry. Her last full recording was in 2002 on a live album “MTV unplugged No 2.0”. Since then she has been performing and recording sporadically. Between the year 2004 to 2009, she appeared on few festivals and occasionally released a few songs. From 2010 she has had few activities which included compiling an unofficial album that called “Khulami phase” from songs done 6 years previously. In late July 2010 unreleased song was leaked online called “Repercussions” and debuted at number 94 on the charts. In 2012 she released a new song “Fearless vampire killer” on a sold out performance in Washington DC based theater. On 2013 May she released a single “Neurotic society (compulsory mix)”. Since then she had legal battles and few public engagements.
